The first 1000 get a $100 credit toward their membership. Then, it’s time for a BIG change in my credit card strategy. I’m saying goodbye to a couple cards to make room for something new. Click “Show More” to see Ad Disclosure. For a while I’ve been using the Capital One Duo, consisting of the Capital One Venture X and the Capital One Savor credit cards. It’s a fantastic setup that keeps things simple while offering strong rewards. However, it’s best for travelers because the Venture X earns Venture miles and the Savor One earns cash back that can be converted to the same miles (or kept as a separate balance to give a hybrid ‘travel-cash-back’ approach). Lately though, I’ve wanted to transition to a cash back credit card strategy. I’m not traveling much right now and having some extra cash to save, invest, and/or cover expenses is valuable to me. However, my new cash back credit card setup isn’t typical; I’m using American Express credit cards for the bulk of it. Normally, Amex credit cards aren’t ideal for cash back because Amex Membership Rewards points give poor value when redeemed as a statement credit (currently 0.6¢ per point). However, adding the Amex Platinum Card for Schwab give a much better redemption rate of 1.1¢ per point, and it works for all points earned across all Amex credit cards (up to 1M points redeemed per year). So, this video is my rundown and explanation of which American Express credit cards I’ll be using, along with several other non-Amex credit cards that fill important gaps.
