Well, for many, the "honeymoon phase" with the Bilt credit card and its rewards program just hit a brick wall. With the transition to Bilt 2.0 and the new card lineup (Bilt Blue Card, Bilt Obsidian Card, and Bilt Palladium Card), what used to be a "no-brainer" for renters has suddenly become a massive math problem that most of us are having difficulty grasping. I’ve spent a bunch of time digging into the new terms, and honestly? Some of these changes are a total gut punch to long-time cardholders (but there is still value - even good value - for some people). Before you hit that "Upgrade" button in the app or submit a new credit card application, we need to talk about why this might a "nerf" in credit card history disguised as a "premium upgrade." We’ll go over many of the new Bilt 2.0 changes / problems, but here’s a look into 3 Red Flags You Can't Ignore: The "75% Spend Trap": In the old days, you did your five transactions and got your 1x on rent. Simple. Now, to "unlock" your full rent or mortgage points without a 3% fee, Bilt 2.0 uses a tiered system tied to your non-housing spend. For most of us, this means you might have to spend up to 75% of your rent amount on everyday purchases just to get the same points you used to get for free. The Death of the "Credit Float.” Bilt 2.0 now requires rent or mortgage payment to be pulled directly from your bank account within 24 hours. In the past, you could use your credit limit to "float" your rent until payday without interest, but that era is officially over. The $495 "Monthly Chore" (Palladium Card): The new $495 Palladium card looks shiny, but the "value" is buried in high-friction credits. That $400 hotel credit? It’s split into $200 semi-annual chunks and requires a two-night minimum stay through their portal. And for those Bilt Cash redemptions? Many of them resemble coupons whereby you can get up to $5, $10, or $15 off certain types of purchases per month. Watch the full breakdown to see if you should jump ship or double down on the new Bilt 2.0.
