The Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve credit cards get all the attention (and they should)! They’re some of the best travel credit cards available. Click "Show More" to see Ad Disclosure.

However, did you know there’s a ‘Chase Sapphire’ credit card with no annual fee?
It’s no longer available for new applications…
BUT…you CAN get it by doing a product change from one Chase credit card to another.
The 2 main paths are:
1. DOWNGRADING from the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve cards
2. PRODUCT CHANGING from the Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Unlimited credit cards
Doing a product change will not allow you to receive a signup bonus, but it WILL keep your credit account open, preserve your credit payment history, preserve your account’s age, and therefore help improve your credit score over the long term.
The no-annual-fee Chase Sapphire card earns 2X Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on dining and 1X points per dollar on all other purchases.
There is no signup bonus, no annual fee, and the card is made of plastic :-)
It earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points, but there is not a ‘boost’ for travel of 25% like on the CSP or 50% like on the CSR.
In other words, points are worth 1¢ each (e.g. 10,000 points = $100 toward travel or cash back).
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Only available via product change
- Access to travel portal (no boost in value)
- NO access to Chase transfer partners like Southwest, United, Hyatt, Marriott, etc.
- Earn 5X points on Lyft rides
- Receive DoorDash’s membership program (DashPass) for 1 year
- You cannot apply for the Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve while you have this card
There *IS* a decent list of insurance coverage on the no-fee Sapphire Credit Card, including:
- Trip cancellation / trip interruption insurance
- Baggage delay insurance
- Roadside dispatch
- Auto rental collision damage waiver (CDW)
- Trip delay reimbursement
- Lost luggage reimbursement
- Travel & emergency assistance services
- Travel accident insurance
That said, if you have the Sapphire Preferred card or Sapphire Reserve card and no longer want to pay the annual fee (but DO want to keep your account open), I recommend downgrading to the Chase Freedom credit card or the Chase Freedom Unlimited credit card instead. Both of these are great cash back credit cards with no annual fees and earn rewards points at a higher rate than the no-fee Sapphire Card.
