Around December 2020, Amex & Marriott sent out consumer surveys to gauge the interest level in a possible Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card refresh. It compared 2 versions of the card, one with a $650 annual fee and another with a $750 annual fee, both with a lot of different benefit combinations. It also asked about a potential $250 mid-tier Marriott card.
Now about 8 months later, Amex & Marriott are at it again with ROUND 2!
The Points Guy recently published a blog post titled, “Are new benefits – but a big fee hike – coming to the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Amex?” (Direct link above)
It shows a screenshot from a new survey that inquired about the Bonvoy Brilliant Card with a $650 annual fee, plus different benefits from the original December survey.
Here’s a breakdown…
The CURRENT Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card has the following benefits:
- Marriott Gold Elite Status, plus earn Platinum Elite Status with $75K spend
- Free Night Award up to a 50,000-point value
- 15 Elite Night Credits
- $100 Luxury Credit, valid at Ritz-Carlton & St. Regis properties
- $300 Annual Marriott Statement Credit
- Priority Pass Membership
- Global Entry / TSA PreCheck credit
The RUMORED / NEW Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card could have (based on survey questions):
- Marriott Platinum Elite Status, plus earn Titanium Elite Status with $75K spend
- 1 Free Night Award up to an 85,000-point value
- 2nd Free Night Award up to an 85,000-point value after $50K spend
- 25 Elite Night Credits
- $100 Luxury Credit, valid at Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, +1 more brand
- Annual Card Choice Award after $50K spend. Choose from: 50,000 Marriott points, 40% discount on bedding, gift set, Gift Gold status to a friend, or 15% off the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection
- $300 statement credit on dining (issued as $25/mo.)
- Priority Pass membership
- Global Entry / TSA PreCheck credit
As an alternative to automatic Platinum Elite Status, there could be a “+1 Status” feature that boosts your status up 1 level from the level you achieved (e.g. if you earned Gold, you’d get bumped to Platinum).
Interestingly, for those who spend $50K on the card, they could end up with…
- At least 100K points via base spend ($50K * 2X points)
- Another 50K points via Card Choice Award
- 2 Free Night Awards worth up to 85K points each
That’s a total value of up to 320,000 points!
(Approximate average value = $2,240!)
