The Chase Sapphire Preferred was originally launched in 2009, and while it has undergone some minor facelifts over the past decade, it has generally kept the same appearance overall.
But as of August 16, 2021, that has CHANGED!
The card sports an all-new look with some refreshed benefits, too!
I’ll be doing a full Chase Sapphire Preferred review as a separate video, but in the meantime, here are the new benefits that were added:
1. Updated Rewards Structure
- 5X Travel booked via the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal
- 3X Dining
- 3X Select Streaming Services
- 3X Online Groceries (excluding Target, Walmart, and Wholesale Clubs)
- 2X Travel (booked outside of the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal)
- 1X Everything Else
2. $50 Hotel Credit: Receive a $50 annual hotel credit to be used towards hotel reservations booked via the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal. The statement credit is automatically applied to your account without having to activate or enroll, and it will not earn points.
3. 10% Cardmember Anniversary Bonus: You’ll receive 10% of your points back each year based on how much you spent on the card. For example, if you spent $25,000 on the CSP throughout the year, then you’d earn 2,500 Ultimate Rewards points as your bonus.
Q&A
Q: Is the new Chase Sapphire Preferred a metal credit card?
A: Yes, it’s still a metal card.
Q: How much does the Chase Sapphire Preferred weight?
A: It weighs 13 grams, which is the same as the old design and the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Q: Did the Chase Sapphire Preferred’s annual fee change?
A: No, the annual fee is still the same at $95.
Q: Can I get a signup bonus if I do a product change or request a replacement?
A: No. The Chase Sapphire Preferred signup bonus is only issued to new applicants (i.e. people who apply & get approved for a new account). Neither product changes from another Chase card (like the Chase Freedom Unlimited or Chase Freedom Flex) nor replacing an existing CSP card are eligible for a welcome bonus.
Q: Were any of the existing Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits eliminated or changed?
A: Nope! The revamped card kept the original benefits and added a few new ones, mentioned above.
