I recently received a targeted email saying I could apply for the Amex Business Platinum Card and was eligible to earn 150,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $15,000 in the first 3 months of card membership. This offer DID NOT have the Amex Lifetime Language that is typically seen on all standard, public offers. I currently have the Amex Business Platinum Card. In fact, originally got it back in 2017, then again in 2021 (and received the welcome bonuses both times), and now I’m going after it a THIRD TIME in my overall relationship with American Express. In fact, here’s my Amex Business Platinum Card Timeline… Card #1 - Opened: 5.17.2021 - Closed: 6.16.2021 - I had it for 13 months - Which was a little less than 3 years ago - Received the welcome offer? Yes. I believe it was to earn 100,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $10,000 in the first 3 months. - Did it have lifetime language? Yes, but it was my 1st time getting the card. Card #2 - Opened: 3.30.2021 - Closed: N/A, I still have it - I had it for a little under 4 months - Received the welcome bonus? Yes. It was to earn 100,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $15,000 in the first 3 months, PLUS earn 5X points on select business categories for the first 3 months (up to a certain threshold). - Did it have lifetime language? No, which is why I was able to get it again with a welcome offer. Card #3 - Opened: 7.22.2021 - Closed: N/A, I got approved in this video :D - Received the welcome bonus? TBD. I need to meet the spend requirement first, but likely so. The offer was to earn 150,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $15,000 in the first 3 months. - Did it have lifetime language? No, which is why I was able to get it for the 2nd time with an offer in 2021 (and the 3rd time over the past 4 years). KEY TAKEAWAYS… - Amex Lifetime Language: States you cannot receive a welcome bonus on a card if you currently have it or previously had it in the past. - Where to find it: (1) Go to Amex’s website (2) Navigate to the card (3) Click on the Offer & Benefit Terms link (4) Scroll down to the OFFER TERMS section. - Which cards it applies to: All personal & business cards. - What it says: “Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.” - No-Lifetime-Language Offer: Does not include lifetime language in terms. - What this means: You may be able to get a welcome bonus on an Amex card you currently have or previously had in the past. - Is it possible to get 2 or more of the same Amex card? Yes, but you’ll only get the welcome bonus on the 1st one unless: (a) the others had no-lifetime-language offers or (b) if you upgraded from another card and had an upgrade bonus.
