DESCRIPTION
Normally I’d never redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points for merchandise, but due to a special limited-time promo, it made a lot of sense. Watch me redeem for an Apple Watch SE as a Father’s Day gift! Click “Show More” to see Ad Disclosure.

BACK STORY…
1. I received an email regarding my Chase Sapphire Preferred card saying, “Points are worth 25% more when redeemed for Apple products. Stay connected during your next trip. Through June 30, 2021, your points are worth 25% more when you redeem at the Apple Ultimate Rewards Store.”
2. Father’s Day is coming up, and for several months I’ve had an Apple Watch in mind as a gift for my dad.
3. Chase Ultimate Rewards points are normally worth 1¢ ($0.01) each for cash back, but they’re worth 25% more (i.e. 1.25¢ each) when redeemed for travel via the Ultimate Rewards portal or by using the Chase Pay Yourself Back feature to cover charges in select categories.
4. Since I had the opportunity to get the elevated 1.25¢ per point rate towards Apple products, I decided to take advantage of it to get the Apple Watch SE as a Father’s Day gift.
HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED…
- I started with 81,455 Chase Ultimate Rewards points, normally worth $814.55 towards cash back.
- However, those points were worth 25% more towards Apple products, meaning their total value was now $1,018.19 (an extra $203.64) through 6.30.2021. That’s the same value I’d get for travel redemptions or by using the Pay Yourself Back feature that only covers select categories.
- The all-in cost of the Apple Watch SE was $332.95.
- That would normally have cost 33,295 Ultimate Rewards points, but due to the promo, I only had to use 26,636 points.
- So I ended up getting a great gift for my dad while saving 6,659 points in the process (worth $66.59 via cash back or $83.24 for travel, Pay Yourself Back, or other limited-time promotions that may occur).
- I was left with 54,829 points to use for future redemptions
WRAP UP…
Be sure to look out for limited-time promotions from Chase allowing you to get greater value for your Ultimate Rewards points than usual. My guess is that if I had the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, then the promo probably would’ve been for an extra 50% value. Definitely a nice way to treat yourself or others to a gift!
