This is normally able to be done via the Invest With Rewards feature and is unique to this version of the Amex Platinum Card. SOURCE: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/american-express-charles-schwab-to-lose-the-1-25¢-cashout-option-maybe-landing-page-language-removed For a long time, the following text appeared on the landing page for the Schwab Platinum Card: “You can use 60,000 points for a $750 deposit from Schwab into your eligible Schwab account.” According to the blog post, that language was removed sometime between 5/31 and 6/01, which is making people question if a change is coming to the card or Invest With Rewards feature. Could the cash-out rate be lowered? Could it be raised? Could it go away? Or worse, could the card itself be discontinued like Mercedes-Benz version some time ago? At this point we don’t know. But since points tend to be devalued over time, I’m choosing to redeem my 587,500 Amex Membership Rewards points NOW instead of later in case something negative happens to the current 1.25¢ per point cash-out rate. The Invest With Rewards option via the Schwab Platinum Card is the best way to redeem Amex points for cash back at the moment. The other option is to get a statement credit via the Cover Your Card Charges feature, but that only gives 0.6¢ per point instead of 1.25¢ (i.e. 10,000 points would only be worth $60 instead of $125 with Schwab). The nice thing about the Schwab Platinum Card in its current form is that you can apply the 1.25¢ per point rate to ALL Amex Membership Rewards points earned across ALL American Express cards you may have. So if you have the Amex Green Card, Amex Gold Card, Amex Blue Business Plus card, or any others that earn Membership Rewards points, they can all be pooled together into one balance, and then redeemed via Schwab. And as you can imagine, that makes for a very powerful cash back setup :D Disclosure: This site is part of an affiliate sales network and receives compensation for sending traffic to partner sites, such as CreditCards.com.
