This is my go-to credit card for gas purchases if I don’t have an American Express credit card with an Amex Offer related to gas … or if my 5% cash back credit cards (namely, the Chase Freedom Flex card and Discover it Cash Back Credit Card) don’t have ‘gas’ as a current quarterly category. CREDIT CARD #5: AMEX GOLD CARD Welcome Bonus Earn 60,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $4,000 in the first 6 months. Rewards 4X Dining 4X Groceries at U.S. Supermarkets, up to $25K spend per year 3X Flights 1X Everything Else Annual Fee = $250 Why It’s In My Wallet I get great use out of the 4X categories and the $10 per month dining credit CREDIT CARD #6: AMEX GREEN CARD Welcome Bonus Earn 45,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $2,000 in the first 6 months Rewards 3X Restaurants 3X Travel 3X Transit 1X Everything Else Annual fee = $150 Why It’s In My Wallet To earn 3X points on my hotel on an upcoming trip. I'm staying at the Delano hotel in Las Vegas. While you can book this hotel through Hyatt due to the partnership, going directly through MGM Resorts gave me a 40% discount if I stayed 3 nights or longer (which I'm doing). So, while I'd normally use the World of Hyatt credit card, in this case it would only earn 1X points (instead of 4X) because I didn't book through Hyatt. That means the Amex Green Card was my next best option, which earns 3X on 'Travel' and includes all hotels worldwide. CREDIT CARD #7: CHASE SAPPHIRE PREFERRED Welcome Bonus Earn 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months, PLUS up to $50 in statement credits towards grocery store purchases within your first year after account opening. Rewards 2X Travel 2X Dining 2X Grocery Store purchases on up to $1,000 in spend per month from November 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021 1X Everything Else Annual Fee = $95 Why It’s In My Wallet For primary rental car insurance on upcoming trip Disclosure: This site is part of an affiliate sales network and receives compensation for sending traffic to partner sites, such as CreditCards.com.
