DESCRIPTION
I got the Chase Sapphire Preferred (again!). Click "Show More" to see Ad Disclosure. I originally got this travel credit card back in 2014, but decided to get it again for a few benefits that I missed after I changed in into a Chase Freedom Unlimited for some time. So now that it’s back in my hands again, here’s the Chase Sapphire Preferred unboxing video! (And since this is a metal credit card, we’ll also do a metal credit card drop test too) :D 💳👉VIEW CREDIT CARD OFFERS! https://markscreditcards.com/offers 🛍 RAKUTEN - Earn Cash Back! http://markscreditcards.com/rakuten ‼️ GET FREE STOCKS FROM WEBULL when you open an account & deposit $100: http://markscreditcards.com/webull 🎬 VIDEO: CHASE SAPPHIRE PREFERRED REVIEW https://youtu.be/ziehrq0pyGU MY JOURNEY In 2014, I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card from a new application. The signup bonus at the time was 50,000 or 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points. I was also doing a ton of business travel at the time, so earning 2X points on all of my airfare, hotels, and rental cars was a HUGE win (and same with earning 2X on all my dining, too)! Then in 2016, the Chase Sapphire Reserve card came out with a CRAZY 100,000 point signup bonus! I was well over the Chase 5/24 rule at the time, so I decided to do a Chase Sapphire Preferred UPGRADE to Chase Sapphire Reserve. The $300 travel credit, 50% boost in point value on the Chase travel portal, airport lounge access via Priority Pass, and other benefits really appealed to me, so upgrading still made sense. I kept the Chase Sapphire Reserve for awhile, but then my strategy changed. I was no longer doing business travel as much, so I moved over to American Express credit cards for cash back. I was actually earning Membership Rewards points and cashed them out with the Amex Platinum Card for Charles Schwab. Normally you should avoid cashing out Amex Membership Rewards points for cash (only worth 0.6¢ per point), but when you have the Schwab Platinum Card, you get a MUCH BETTER rate (1.25¢ per point). Since I was using the Amex Platinum Card, Amex Gold Card, Amex Green Card, and Amex Blue Business Plus Card as my credit card strategy, I was left with the Sapphire Reserve’s $450 annual fee (now $550). So, I downgraded the Chase Sapphire Reserve card back down to the Chase Freedom Unlimited. Over time, I really missed the ability to transfer points over to Southwest Rapid Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy, and the World of Hyatt programs whenever I needed to top off my travel rewards points balances for a vacation or trip. Sooo…. I upgraded the Chase Freedom Unlimited back to the Chase Sapphire Preferred again :-) And THAT was my journey! :D I’m still focused on my cash back credit card strategy at the moment with American Express, but I’ll admit it’s really nice to have those Chase transfer partners again for my occasional travels. Way too often I found myself just a few thousand points short to cover the entire cost of airfare or my hotel, so now I can transfer over the points I need using the Chase travel partners. Nowadays, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is no longer one of the best travel credit cards for everyday spend. The 2X rewards categories just aren’t that competitive anymore. BUT… I DO recommend the Chase Sapphire Preferred for these reasons: 1. Chase transfer partners with a lower $95 annual fee 2. Chase travel portal boost of 25% more value 3. Primary rental car insurance 4. Free DashPass by DoorDash membership for 12+ months when you enroll on or before 12/31/2020 If you’re looking for a travel points credit card to earn really quickly, the Citi Premier card and the Amex Green Card are great options to consider as they also have transfer partners. Best of all, however, is to have a Chase credit card strategy where you use 1 Sapphire-branded card along with 2 Freedom-branded cards. For example, get the Chase Sapphire Preferred AND the Chase Freedom Flex AND the Chase Freedom Unlimited (and perhaps add the Chase Ink Business Preferred, too)! Since all of those cards earn the same rewards currency - Chase Ultimate Rewards points – you can combine them all into 1 account balance, and then use the Sapphire-branded card or the Ink Business Preferred to get the travel portal boost and access to transfer partners. The Chase credit card ecosystem is VERY POWERFUL. Disclosure: This site is part of an affiliate sales network and receives compensation for sending traffic to partner sites, such as CreditCards.com.
