There are a crazy amount of Marriott credit cards out there … something like 8 or 9 of them if you include the Ritz-Carlton Rewards credit card and all the Marriott cards that have been discontinued.
The 4 that are available for new applications at the time of this video are:
- Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card ($450 annual fee)
- Marriott Bonvoy Business Card ($125 annual fee)
- Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card by Chase ($95 annual fee)
- Marriott Bonvoy Bold credit card by Chase (no annual fee)
However, out of ALL the Marriott credit cards, there’s one that is the BEST for earning tons of points at home, and that one is…
The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card by American Express ($125 annual fee).
It’s not a metal credit card, but here’s why it’s a ‘keeper card’ that I plan to hang onto for years to come…
1. SIGN UP BONUS: Currently you can earn 75,000 Marriott points up front by spending $3K in the first 3 months. This offer can also go higher, so be on the lookout. This bonus is an awesome way to get a ton of value up front in your first year. Those 75K points can get you 1 night at a Category 7 property or 3 nights at a Category 4 property under normal conditions.
2. MASSIVE POINT EARNING: *THIS* is the reason why this card shines so bright. Check it out…
6X points at Marriott properties
4X points at U.S. restaurants
4X points at U.S. gas stations
4X points on U.S. shipping
2X points on everything else
It’s those middle 4X earning tiers in highly useful categories that allow you to earn BIG on the things you normally spending on (except the shipping, perhaps).
3. FREE NIGHT AWARD: Each year you keep the card and pay the annual fee, you’ll receive a free night certificate to redeem at Marriott hotels up to 35,000 points per night (i.e. a Category 5 property on the award chart). If you spend $60K on the card in a year, you will then earn a second free night award.
4. ELITE STATUS: Marriott Silver Elite Status comes with this card, and while it’s not the most rewarding tier, it still provides a few perks that you might value, like late checkout and an extra 10% points bonus on stays. That helps you earn free nights a little faster :-) Plus, you can qualify for Marriott Gold Elite Status by spending $35K on the card in a year.
Check out the Marriott elite status benefits here: https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/member-benefits.mi
5. 15 ELITE NIGHT CREDITS: If you’re chasing elite status, these credits count as if you actually stayed 15 nights at Marriott hotels. Normally when a credit card gives you elite status outright, you don’t receive all the nights that come with that level…you just get the status. So if you want to earn an even higher tier, you’d have to literally start at 0 nights and work all the way up. So earning 15 nights to start is GREAT.
6. NO FOREIGN TRANSACTION FEES: Planning a trip abroad? Avoid those 2-3% foreign transaction fees by using this card for your purchases wherever Amex is accepted.
7. PREMIUM WIFI: Normally you’d have to pay for premium wifi (i.e. the “fast internet”) each night of your stay or get it waived by attaining Gold Elite Status or higher. However, if you’d rather not be bothered with that, simply having this card will give you the top tier internet speeds at no charge.
There you have it - one of the best hotel credit cards on the market and THE BEST Marriott credit card overall!
